South Bay Allergy and Asthma Group, Inc. (SBAAG) is a single specialty allergy, asthma, and clinical immunology group practice. We have three conveniently located offices in San Jose and Mountain View, California. Each office is located close to a major hospital. The San Jose offices are near O'Connor Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital. The Mt. View office is located behind El Camino Hospital (ECH) across the street from the ECH emergency room. Click on the "Contact Us" tab to find Maps with Yahoo Maps links for directions.

All four physicians in our practice are Board-certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology and the American Board of Internal Medicine. We see both children and adults with asthma, allergic and immunologic diseases but do not practice general medicine.

We specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of allergy, asthma, sinus disease, hay fever, chronic cough, hives, skin allergies, recurrent infections, and food, insect and animal hypersensitivities.

Each of our doctors has special interests such as dermatologic contact allergies, patch testing, food allergy, chronic sinusitis, refractory asthma, aspirin sensitive asthma, and pollen and mold identification and counting. Two of our doctors can speak Mandarin, and there are staff members who speak Spanish and Tagalog. If you have special concerns, please ask our receptionists to speak with the physicians so that you may be seen by a doctor who closely matches your needs. Our office manager can also help with difficult questions you may have.

We take almost all PPOs. We also see patients with HMO insurance through SCCIPA (Santa Clara County IPA) and PMG (Physicians Medical Group of San Jose). If you have HMO insurance a referral from your primary care doctor is needed before you can be seen.

If you have called and made an appointment, Privacy and Registration forms are available on the Privacy/Patient Forms tab above. For your convenience, they can be downloaded and filled out prior to your visit. This will save time on the day of the visit.

We try to avoid using answering machines at the office except sometimes on the Chinese language line or on the billing line when specific persons are not available. We value human interaction even from the very first call you make to us. You will generally hear the voice of a friendly receptionist when you call. She will do her best to help you and schedule your appointments. She will tell you about what drugs need to be withheld for skin testing, (click on the "Skin Testing" tab above). She will go over your insurance coverage with you.

Since we have three offices, please make sure that you tell the receptionist that you want to have your visit at the "Mt. View" office (near El Camino Hospital) or the "Good Sam" office near Good Samaritan Hospital or the "Bellerose Office" near O'Connor Hospital and Valley Fair. "Allergy Shots" and patient visits are given at all three locations, click the "Contact Us" tab for shot hours. Patient visits are held every weekday at all locations. As an extra bonus, we are also open in the Mt. View office Saturday mornings for shots and patient visits.

If you have an allergy, we can help you!

An allergy is a “hypersensitivity” or harmful reaction to substances such as pollens, house dust mites, cats and dogs and other animals and molds. Foods and drugs can also cause allergies. Allergies are reactions to substances that are not normally harmful and to which your body should not normally react. For instance:

Do you have itchy eyes, sneezing, runny nose, and nasal congestion in the spring or fall seasons, or all year round? Do you have a "chronic cold" that lasts for months? Are you suffering from chronic sinus infections? Are you unable to smell your favorite perfume?

Is your asthma preventing you from playing sports or petting your dog? Have you ever developed hives and don’t know what is causing them?

Is your baby suffering from an itchy rash and you don’t know what to do? Is your child’s school performance suffering because of nasal congestion or nasal itching or a chronic rash that keeps him or her from concentrating in class?

These are the common presentations of allergies!

When should I come to see an allergist such as Drs. Chu, Xu, Kellogg and Mehrotra?

If you suspect you might have an allergy, you may make an appointment for a consultation to see us. Specifically, if you have bothersome symptoms such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, sinus infections, eczema or urticaria (a swelling condition of the skin), or an allergy to a food or a medication, we may be able to help you! If you have HMO insurance, you would need a referral from a primary care physician. If you have PPO insurance, you don’t need a referral.

We invite you to visit the allergy and asthma offices of Theodore J. Chu, M.D., Anlin Xu, M.D., John S. Kellogg, M.D., and Anjuli Mehrotra, M.D. We have two offices in San Jose and one in Mountain View. We will help you to make the accurate diagnosis and provide you with the proper treatment you need.
